Consumer Action Handbook

The Consumer Action Handbook provides you with a guide to being a smart shopper. The handbook includes information on such topics as understanding credit, insurance, buying a home, investing, financing college, and a list of key consumer information resources. The guide is provided at no charge from th U.S. General Services Administration.

FDIC Money Smart Adult Education Program

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation offers computer-based instruction for adults. Money Smart is easy to use and includes 10 modules that take between 20-30 minutes to complete per module. The instruction is available for free on-line or on CD-ROM.

Vermont Bar Association

The association's web site includes the Center for Public Education. A variety of legal and educational resources are available for free from this site. Of special note is a 2002 publication titled, "Taking Charge: Plan Now for Future Financial Control."

Vermont Department of Financial Regulation

The Department of Financial Regulation provides a wide range of information to help consumers choose, work with, and report problems with the businesses it regulates, which include: banks, licensed lenders, credit unions, securities firms, broker/dealers and investment advisors.

Vermont Office of the Attorney General

The Consumer Protection Unit of the Attorney General's Office investigates and prosecutes violations of Vermont's consumer laws, which prohibit businesses from engaging in unfair or deceptive acts or practices.
